Firstfruits to Shavuot

Yeshua appeared before The Father early on the morning of The Feast of Firstfruits. His going to The Father as The Firstfruit of Firstfruits was recorded in John 20:17 ... Yeshua said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Three days earlier Yeshua had paid the Redeemer's Ransom Price with His Blood and Death. His Resurrection at Feast of Firstfruits confirmed that all believers in Yeshua as The Beloved Kinsman Redeemer of YHVH will be resurrected and live forever in the presence of The Father!

In the natural The Feast of Firstfruits is like a "linking" celebration. It begins on the first day of the week - the Sunday following the Weekly Sabbath of Friday to Saturday that follows Pesach which is Nisan 15. And it will end on the first day of the week fifty days later with Shavuot.

Firstfruits actually happens sometime during the Feast of Unleavened Bread and it is the start of the fifty day count to Shavuot. It was on the fortieth day of this count that Yeshua returned to The Father to prepare the future place for us believers. The disciples waited as instructed with great anticipation for Shavuot to come! Yeshua had promised something wonderful for them at that time and they weren't disappointed!

The Feast of Firstfruits is related to the barely harvest. Barley is considered a "rough" grain but it is winnowed, being thrown into the air, to separate the hull from the grain. By the time Shavuot comes, the barley has been harvested and the wheat harvest begins. Wheat is different from barely. It must be thrashed to get the grain from the hull. The firstfruit of Shavuot is wheat.

During the count to Shavuot we enjoy a variety of barley-based main courses and dairy-based deserts. The barley dishes remind us of the barley harvest and the dairy deserts remind us of the giving of the Torah at Shavuot.
