Reckoning the Jewish Day

Genesis 1:5 ... "And God called the light day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day." God reckons each day from sunset to sunset. The Gentile reckoning of a day is from midnight to midnight. And that difference of reckoning can make for quite the challenge in determining the "day" of the Feasts!

As one travels further north and south from the equator the balance between day and night goes through a cycle of lengthening and shortening. That makes for interesting Jewish Day reckoning especially in winter and summer. And going east or west from Israel causes one to either be ahead or behind the time in Israel.

We live halfway between the equator and the north pole. And we also live west of Israel by eight hours. So while being aware of the time in Israel, we do use "clock time" for our celebration meals.
